COURSE OVERVIEW: This course is the first class in the IT program at DATC. It covered IT Fundamentals, including the basics of computers: operating systems, hardware, networking, and security. It also included a brief introduction to coding with Python and working with relational databases using SQL. I earned the CompTIA Fundamentals+ certification at the end of this course.
COURSE REFLECTION: I learned to troubleshoot basic computer errors, set up secure networks, harden devices, and set up other basic protections against hackers (firewalls, anti-virus systems, etc.) I can navigate Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS, and Ubuntu Linux, and I can send commands via the command line / terminal in these devices. I can set up file systems’ permissions. I know the fundamental commands on Relational database systems: the basics of Data Manipulation and Data Definition Languages. I can use my knowledge to do basic troubleshooting on computer systems as I understand the basic types of computing devices (IoT, mobile devices, workstations, servers, laptops, etc.), how they function, and what they can do. I can set up a secure LAN, harden computers to protect against attackers, and diagnose and repair basic problems with computing devices. I can even put together a PC with its hardware components!
